Grade 1 organic pink berries from the state of Bahia in Brazil, produced to the highest quality standards; hand-sorted and naturally dried, they have a magnificent color ranging from pale pink to carmine red, and an exceptional sweet, resinous, flowery taste without any bitterness or pungency: the candy of spices, the fruits of Schinus terebinthifolius, a cousin of the Schinus molle found in southern gardens.

La baie rose du Brésil, aroeira en portugais, est issue du faux poivrier du genre Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi, on l’appelle également poivre rose, elle appartient à la famille des Anacardiaceae qui regroupe de nombreux arbres ou arbustes des régions tempérées à tropicales.

Where does Bahia's pink bay come from?

One might be tempted to say Brazil, but in fact no, this pink berry is native to Peru, in the Andes. Inland, this tree is used to demarcate plots of land, leaning against low stone walls, but it's on the coast that it's used for its flamboyant pink seeds.

This species is cultivated and its fruit produced in large quantities in Brazil (hence its name), Madagascar, Reunion, New Caledonia and almost all of South America.

It goes by many names: Brazilian pink berry, Bahia pink berry, Bourbon pepper, Bourbon pink berry, Reunion pepper, pink pepper...
