False" peppers are spices or aromatics bearing the name of pepper but not being a "Piper" in the botanical sense of the term. These include monk's pepper, Sichuan pepper and Tasmanian pepper, as well as Guinea pepper, also known as maniguette, and the essential Japanese Sansho berry.
From the Ganshu berry to the Timut pepper also known as the Timur berry from Nepal, false peppers often come from the botanical genus Zanthoxylum (armatum, pieritum,...). They go fabulously well in desserts, infused with sugar or cream.
