Place des Epices has been in the back of our minds for 30 years now. Our parents were gourmet restaurateurs who worked with fresh produce all their lives, our aunts and uncles were hoteliers, and our great-grandparents were butchers at Les Halles de Paris. Franck is an art director, Fred a botanist, and their shared passion for eating and entertaining led them to develop Place des Epices, an organic grocery store for the vast majority of products.
We surround ourselves with the best spice suppliers in France and Europe, gleaning from all over the world a variety of products, each more astonishing than the last. Aswan, Taliouine, Alnif, Panamaram: these are just some of the world's cities we visit, returning with our heads full of emotions, beautiful encounters and recipes.
Today it's Aurore, Laetitia, Yaiza and Julien who help us prepare and dispatch your orders on a daily basis, and tomorrow we'll be welcoming other enthusiasts. The circle is growing, but the workshop will always remain on a human scale to preserve our know-how and the quality of our products.
We've decided to use only organic spices (with the exception of certain specialty peppers that don't yet have a label, but are nonetheless traditionally grown by small farms), most of which are eco-friendly. It seemed an obvious choice, given the poor-quality products on the market. Choosing organic spices also means being able to offer dozens of spice blends in organic quality, which is still a rarity on the spice market.
Garam masala, ras-el-hanout, Xaawash, curry, panch foron, organic is now possible, and Place des Epices roasts, assembles and grinds to order, another of our specialities!
Of course, this choice of bio-responsibility also includes bulk purchases packaged in eco-recyclable organic bags and recycled metal packaging (made in France) that you can keep for years.
Some sixty references of spices, most of them organic and eco-responsible
All spices are ground on demand to ensure freshness and respect for the products.
Dozens of organic blends, toasted, assembled and ground to order for greater authenticity, including blends discovered on our travels.
Some forty real and fake peppers, mostly from Asia, but also from Africa and America.
As of July 2019 we are proud to be part of the Collège Culinaire de France as a Quality Artisan. A testament and recognition of our daily passion, a big thank you to everyone who supports us, especially Thomas, Gaël and Mickaël.
