Sarawak pepper is a true pepper of the Piper negrum family, unlike long java pepper.
It's a rare pepper, considered one of the best in the world along with its acolytes, Kampot pepper and bird pepper (Penja).

It grows mainly in the north of the island of Borneo, in the state that also bears its name: Sarawak. In this region, also known as the land of the hornbills, dense tropical forests make Sarawak one of the country's most unspoilt regions, and the perfect breeding ground for this exceptional pepper.

Sarawak pepper is both fragrant and powerful, with a fresh, fruity aroma reminiscent of citrus.
Once in the mouth, the spiciness slowly takes its place and a fruity, almost floral flavor takes over.
Sarawak is a hot pepper that maintains a good presence on the palate, giving off many woody and spicy nuances.
