Description
Further information

Ahah dried banana chips! They're a great source of energy, a sportsman's ally and a food rich in carbohydrates and vitamins. The bananas are harvested ripe, to give the dried strips their full flavor. At breakfast with sultana grapes, or as an aperitif with roasted peanuts, dried bananas provide potassium and magnesium on a daily basis.

Banana history

The banana tree, probably one of the oldest known edible plants, is thought to have originated in Southeast Asia (from India to Papua New Guinea, and even Polynesia). Originally, its fruit, the banana, was probably eaten only rarely, as it had little flesh and was full of inedible seeds (wild banana).
It seems to have been one of the first fruits to be cultivated by man, who, by dint of cross-breeding, enabled the development of the plump, generous banana as we know it. The cradle of banana domestication is thought to have been in southern and eastern Asia, 10,000 years BC.
It then spread through maritime expeditions to Africa, Central America and South America. However, it wasn't until the 19th century that the famous yellow fruit was exported to the United States and Europe, not least because it was difficult to preserve during transport.
Contrary to popular belief, the banana plant is not a tree. A member of the Musaceae family, the banana plant is herbaceous, woodless and branchless, with a central rhizome (pseudo-trunk) formed by leaf petioles and renewed every year.
Banana Chips are crisp and golden brown.
Native to the Philippines, the variety used is Cardava (local name "Saba")... harvested all year round.
