What is Almoharin Bio Calabacita fig?

For over 600 years, this small village ofAlmoharin has developed an economy based on agriculture, taking great care not only in the cultivation of fig trees, but also in the preparation of this delicate fruit, the "Calabacita" fig.
Fig trees are sometimes planted in the hills (terraced farming). This type of cultivation has the advantage of retaining the water and minerals necessary for fig tree growth, as well as slowing soil erosion.
The "Calabacita" fig is grown exclusively in the Extremadura region (south-western Spain).
Small in size and fine in texture, this variety is renowned for its sweet flavor and color, which are delicately reminiscent of honey. What's more, it is only sold in dried form, as its shell is so thin that it would quickly be damaged by handling in the fresh state. The "Calabacita" Fig is harvested in August and dried in the sun.
