8,20
138,00  /kg

Originally from Cameroon, piper nigrum from India arrived in Africa in 1930. The first PGI on the African continent, Penja black pepper is a firm favourite with pepper connoisseurs; it is considered to be the best pepper in the world, a claim also made by Kampot pepper. Our pepper comes from the commune of Loum, near the coast.

Description
Further information

Organic IGP Penja black pepper:

Discover Penja Pepper PGI, a rarity grown in the heart of the Littoral and South-West regions of Cameroon, in a carefully delimited geographical area. The volcanic soils of Penja, combined with the presence of exceptional basalt rocks, give this pepper its unique and distinctive aroma. Along with Kampot pepper, it is undoubtedly one of the world's finest peppers!

Geographical features :

The production area covers 3,000 km², encompassing six arrondissements and communes, including Mbanga, Mombo, Njombé-Penja, Loum (for our batch), part of Manjo in the Moungo department (Littoral region), and Tombel in the Sud-Ouest department. Nestled on the intertropical headland, this region creates a unique microclimate, characterized by half-humid, half-dry relative humidity. This particular climate favors the production of rare mineral elements that give pepper its specific aromas.

Responsible Culture:

Local know-how favors environmentally-friendly practices, with integrated soil management and mostly manual weeding. In addition to the fertilizers recommended for organic production, locally-produced organic matter is reintegrated into the production fields.

Harvest cycle :

The Penja pepper harvest season runs from December to January, with flowering in April and seed ripening eight months later.

UNAPAC Cooperative - Authentic Partnership :

Our collaboration with Lucie and Jean-Marie is rooted in the values of quality and sustainability. The cooperative, which brings together 50 organic farmers, is certified global gap and fair trade. Based in Loum, a rural area where agriculture is the mainstay of daily life, the shared farm and packaging plant embody our commitment to ethical farming practices.

Commitment to Sustainable Agriculture :

Jean-Marie, a director of COLEACP, works actively to promote sustainable and inclusive agricultural practices. His commitment is reflected in the growing awareness among producers of the need to adopt organic farming methods, thus contributing to a more responsible agricultural future in his country.
