Thymus vulgaris for botanists, thyme for ordinary people, is one of the most important plants in the pharmacopoeia, because although we often use it in our stews and grills, thyme is a powerful, broad-spectrum anti-infective. It effectively relieves a number of respiratory pathologies (bronchitis, pleurisy) as well as asthma and hay fever.

Dried, it is an important source of calcium, manganese and vitamin K. In its ground form, you'll tend to use it in your cooking, while in its whole form you can infuse it in boiling water. It will relieve sore throats and recurring coughs.
