A hardy, herbaceous annual with a strongly branched stem, up to 60cm high. Seeds are harvested and dried. Coriander is used in many spice blends, including garam masala and sambar masala, as well as in guacamole and tagine blends. A mild, slightly sweet spice, it can be used generously and easily in a wide range of dishes. In seed form, it flavors marinades; in powder form , it goes well with other crushed spices, or simply with mustard seeds to cook fish in a spicy crust. Our coriander comes from the Isère region.
Originally from the Middle East or Asia Minor, coriander has spread widely throughout the Mediterranean basin, and is also one of the most widespread plants in Asia. The spherical seeds produce a subtle, fragrant grind used in many dishes, including pastilla, couscous and soups. The Egyptians often used it: the seeds perfumed cereal cakes under Ramses; coriander seeds have been found in the tombs of the XXI dynasty, in the Valley of the Kings on the west bank of Luxor.
Our coriander comes from the Vienne region in the Isère, where in 2020 we began a collaboration with a farming couple. The plot of just over three hectares is dedicated to us, and the photo taken at the end of March shows the young plants waiting for the sun to grow, flower and set seeds that will be harvested in the summer. The new crop arrives on August 12.
